Oxnard Police Department and the Ride of SilenceMay 18, 2016905 Redwood Street, Oxnard Staging activities at 5:30, Ride Start at 7:00pm
The Oxnard Police Department will lead the annual Ride of Silence, joining members of the local community and the Channel Islands Bicycle Club to honor bicyclists who have been injured or killed while riding their bikes.
The Ride of Silence is an international organization that aims to raise awareness of motorists and city officials that cyclists must have safe street passageways, cyclists must follow the rules of the road and wear protective gear, and to show respect for and honor the lives of those who have been killed or injured.
Please join us for this event that for the past several years honors local resident eight-year old Anthony Martinez Jr. who was tragically killed while riding his bicycle near his home. Everyone is invited to join this important event either by riding bikes in the eight-mile long procession to be led by the Oxnard Police motors or just showing support during the pre-ride gatherings. Helmets and proper bike lights are required!
