I would suggest checking into mapmyride.com for a distance that suits you.  There's aren't very many really good areas to ride and the bike lanes are very sporadic plus lots of traffic.  Stay off hwy 111 (Palm Canyon Dr) since there's no bike lane and it's busy. You'll be OK if you stick to the resi side roads but you have to figure it out as you go.

Head north of PS through the housing tracts until you get to Racquet Club. From there head north on Highway 111 towards Whitewater Canyon. Highway 111 has a big bike shoulder and the route is almost without stops. However, do it early in the morning to avoid any headwinds that usually occur in the afternoon. We go there often and have many routes, most short due to the twists and turns. Try biking in the east end of the valley, like in LaQuinta or Indio.

I love the ride about Joshua Tree National Park. We went in the later part of April. It was already warming up , but tolerable.

It has been my hope that we could interest some club members in doing this as a nearby  out of town trip. No later than Early April is a must.

Twice a year there is the Tour de Palm Springs for road cyclists. It's fantastic and takes you to the valleys and hills north of the 10 Interstate and many options for riders. I did the 50 mi. and thoroughly enjoyed the route.  The next Tour de Palm Springs is January 21, 2017.  Here is their website to register and more information: http://www.tourdepalmsprings.com/

Don't know about this organized ride. But I sure like riding about Joshua Tree. One or the other. Last year we considered doing this in about Mid Spring and it was too hot.
