Does anybody in the forum have any experience riding through Lassen Volcanic National Park? My son & I are going to be riding through in about two weeks an I was hoping for advice on any areas to be extra alert on, or any other advice.
Thanks
Always eager to ride in some new site: I'm always eager to share my technique to check out how worthy is cycling at some new location. Not that you haven't used such a technique. Perhaps, none of us have personal recollections of riding Lassen.?
I checked out the local cycle clubs, shops , or cycling search sites .
The closest town is Redding and it has one bike club. That being the Shasta Wheelman. http://shastawheelmen.org/
The local bike shop describes local cycling options. There are many options outside of Lassen.

Being that there is only one road in and out , should your ride be roadie oriented , that is your only option as to riding the park. Good luck.
Terry's advice is spot on. I've driven through Lassen and checked out a number of the awesome features. The road thru was definitely rideable. Probably shouldn't take your bikes through Bumpass Hell tho, tires might melt, sulfur bad for your bike;) Have a great trip!
We made it from Manzanita lake to Lassen peak! Great road (other than the chip-seal surface) was smooth and traffic was light. I suggest going on a weekend as traffic does get heavy.
