Construction Start: Winter 2024 (Caltrans document)
Projected cost: $41,961,000
The California Department of Transportation proposes a bridge replacement project on State Route 1 from post-mile (PM) 21.3 to 21.9 in Ventura County. The proposed project will replace the entirety of Bridge #52-0040 on PM 21.54 and widen the cross-section of the bridge deck to incorporate a Class 1 bicycle and pedestrian shared-use path (on the ocean side of the bridge) adjacent to the southbound travel lanes. The shared-use path will be separated from the roadway through a concrete barrier, which will be constructed between PM 21.3 (near the US-101 and SR-1 ramp interchange) to 21.9 (State Beach Access Rd intersection). A pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) signalized crossing will be incorporated at the entrance of State Beach Access Rd for bicyclists to safely transition to the next part of their journey at PM 21.9. Ample crosswalk signs will be posted to ensure drivers are aware of bicyclists and pedestrians crossing at this location. The aesthetics (fencing, barriers, etc.) of the Class 1 bicycle and pedestrian shared-use path will be comparable to the existing shared-use path between Mussel Shoals and the Ventura and Santa Barbara County Line (north of the project).
See the proposed Bicycle and Pedestrian Detour Route for the duration of the 2-year project.
