Santa Paula Branch Line Trail website
The Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) acquired the Santa Paula Branch Line (SPBL) railroad in 1995 for use as a multimodal bicycle and hiking trail.
Now, 30 years later, VCTC is beginning an update to the SPBL Trail Master Plan, to validate trail alignment, connections, and amenities, and update existing conditions.
Why the 30 year delay in planning for this Class I bike path on public property? Bicyclists did not adequately speak out in the past regarding the need for a safe, family-friendly, and enjoyable route connecting Ventura to Santa Paula to Fillmore to Piru.
When completed, this bike trail will be almost twice the length of the Ventura River Trail. Now is our opportunity to participate in the planning and design process.
This study is particularly interesting: Bike Trail Compatibility with Farmland It reviews many case studies regarding Class I bike paths adjacent to private lands.
